Nice to meet you!

Hi! I’m Kate (she/her).

I’m a type-A, recovering perfectionist, dog mom who gets hyperfocused on hobbies (the most current is learning to surf). I popped out of the womb anxious and feel big feelings. I see my high sensitivity as a superpower, but didn’t always. Life can be hard for empaths in a loud, fast world.

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for counseling services. On the outside, you might look like you’re keeping your shit together. No one would know that you’re a bundle of nerves on the inside, constantly battling self-hatred, guilt, or obsessive thoughts and worries. Sometimes the worries are about nothing in particular…more like a cloud looming over most days. Other times, they might have to do with past trauma, an eating disorder, or wishing for a different body.

Does this sound like you? If so, I imagine you’re sick of feeling this way.

Asking for help is hard. I know because I’ve been in your seat, scouring the internet for a counselor because I want my life to feel different. I know from my own experience (which will be different from yours) that it’s possible to ditch negative self-talk and channel your fears, perfectionism, and self-criticism in other ways besides keeping yourself small.

I’ve got a good road map of strategies to help people get to the root of things holding them back in life. Because I’ve been there, I know how to call out the bullshit that might keep you from being really honest with yourself. You’ve got to be the one to make the changes, but I’m not afraid to jump in and navigate the mess with you.

My clients are tired of trying to be perfect and liked by everyone around them. They want more out of life than a smaller dress size. They’re sick of feeling tense and tired. They want to look in the mirror and feel confident–but not just about their appearance. They want to feel confident that they healed some wounds that were holding them back from living with more integrity. I work best with people who are ready to do this deep work and am thrilled to help you transform your life.

If this sounds like you, go ahead and give me a call.

For those needing more assurance that I have the chops to help you, this part of my About Me is for you.

I have a dual master’s degree in counseling from UNC-Greensboro and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina. I provide in-person and online therapy in Raleigh, NC and across the state. My counseling experience comes from working in K-12 schools, colleges, and mental health agencies. I’ve been a counselor for 12 years and in private practice since 2017.

Beyond graduate school, I did three years of training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic experiencing is a way we can use the body’s cues to figure out where trauma is stuck in the nervous system. It can be useful for helping folks that have done traditional talk therapy but still experience a lot of anxiety, mood swings, compulsions, body discomfort, and sensory overwhelm no matter how much they try to change their thoughts or behaviors. This work has been profound in my own body and trauma healing, and I’m glad to share it with you.

Since training is my jam (type-A, recovering perfectionist, remember?), I’m also Level 2 EMDR trained. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is useful for healing past trauma, anxiety, and negative beliefs. I also have extensive training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and traumatic grief. My background as a yoga teacher also comes in handy for folks wanting to try some embodiment strategies beyond talk therapy.

I love working with highly sensitive, motivated, curious women who are ready to heal old wounds, ditch their eating disorder, and get their life back. We’ve got so many tools to use to help you create lasting change in your life. You don’t have to be stuck in the mess forever. There is hope!

Fill out the contact form now and we’ll set up a call to get you started.

I believe that all bodies are good bodies regardless of size, color, shape, sexual orientation, gender identification, ability, status, or access.

I will do my best to provide compassionate care that meets you and your body’s story where it is to help you find the healing you need. That said, I don’t prescribe diets and am firmly rooted in a Health at Every Size approach.
