Your intuition is better than you think.
Signs you’re ready to try Intuitive Eating
01 — Food rules steal your joy
And you’re sick of it. Counting carbs one minute and diving into a pint of ice cream the next is no way to live. It’s time to get off the diet merry-go-round.
02 — Movement has been for punishment not pleasure
You’re either caught in one or the other: the thought of missing a workout sends you into a guilt-driven tailspin OR the thought of going to the gym sends a ripple of shame into your insides. Either way, movement doesn’t feel fun anymore and you’re over it.
03 — You don’t know if you’re hungry or full
You’ve been dealing with disordered eating for so long, that it’s hard to tell when you’re hungry (except when you get called out for being hangry) or when you’re full (and usually that’s when you’re over-stuffed)—there’s no in-between. You’d like to get to a place where you can trust your body to tell you when and what to eat.
04 — Negative body image and dieting has strained intimacy with yourself and others
Sex? Yeah, right. No freaking way you want to be naked or touched by yourself, let alone someone else. It’d be nice to give and receive pleasure without all the baggage that comes with it.
05 — You don’t have an active eating disorder and are ready to quit dieting for good
You’ve decided you’re done with diets at all costs and can change behaviors without diving into things like purging, binging and over-exercising. Even if you’re a little nervous, you know it’s time to start following your body’s cues and stop spinning your wheels with dieting.
